# What are PALs?

> AI companion experiences with text, voice, and video—and how they relate to Tavus developer products.

**PALs** are Tavus companion experiences that combine text, voice, and face-to-face video so users can talk with expressive AI characters in a consumer-style product.

PALs are separate from the **Conversational Video Interface (CVI)** and API workflows documented in this site's **CVI** and **API** tabs.
